A Word of Encouragement - Book Review of Ordinary Graces

A Word of Encouragement: Review of Ordinary Graces: Word Gifts for Any Season

There are moments when God places the right resources into your hands at the right time.  I have had the opportunity to experience such grace recently.  I had been struggling in my faith walk for about a month and a half when I was given the book, Ordinary Graces: Word Gifts for Any Season by Lucinda Secrest McDowell.  Having the chance to meet with Lucinda earlier in the year, I knew the passion she had behind the project and the desire she had to instill hope and life into others.  Hope and life were two elements I desperately needed.

As I opened the cover to the devotional, her phrase “word gifts” pricked my thoughts.  The premise of the book is that each chapter gives you a word on which to meditate and marinate.  Accompanied by the word gift of the day is a verse of Scripture and then a personal glimpse into the heart of the author.  Through her authenticity, she provides insight and encouragement into the daily theme.  At the end of the morsel of wisdom, the reader receives a benediction written from the perspective of the Heavenly Father.

I often rush through life and forget to take time to be still and recognize the fullness of God.  This devotional helped me slow my pace and remember how great my God is.  I have learned that God purposes every word, every moment, and every breath.  Even when we do not understand, God’s foreknowledge eclipses our fear.  He is a God who gives us grace, strength, and life.  Therefore, our lives should live out gratitude.  These are the four premises I learned.

If you need a resource to help further your walk with the Lord, this is a great tool.  The chapters are short enough to read in just a few minutes, yet you will ponder the wisdom within throughout the day.  You can purchase this resource on amazon.com

For the next several days, my friend is giving away copies of her book.  You can find the link to the giveaway on the homepage of my blog.

I am thankful to God for placing this book into my hands at the right time.  I hope you can find encouragement through this book as well.
